Pilates Class

At the Gymnase, located in Mile-ex (Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie in Montreal), we offer several Pilates classes:

Pilates and Stretching:

As in most Pilates classes, a good part of the session is spent strengthening the abdominal muscles and the buttocks. Stretching is integrated to give the different segments of the body a greater musculoskeletal availability, a greater possibility of movement. By alternating strengthening and stretching exercises, we try to free the body from its postural automatisms and stiffness.

Pilates and Posture:

Based on the foundations of Pilates, the exercises focus on deep muscles, abdominal strength, joint mobility and good posture habits. The focus is on precision rather than speed of movement. This class is ideal for people who sit a lot and have tension in the neck, back and shoulder areas.

Gentle Pilates:

This is a Pilates class that respects the limitations and constraints brought on by life (injury, childbirth, age, etc.). Ideal for those who wish to strengthen the abdominal muscles, improve posture and gently loosen the back.

Pilates

Pilates, a form of exercise created in the early 20th century, is still very popular today. It is the method most recommended by physiotherapists and doctors. Pilates strengthens both the superficial muscles of the body and the deep muscles (mostly responsible for posture and often more difficult to target because they are smaller). In order to sharpen your body awareness, the instructor will guide you throughout the session with pictures and precise verbal instructions.

The exercises also put a lot of emphasis on strengthening the abdominal muscles (abs, back and buttocks). Pilates is therefore ideal for people who sit a lot and have tension in the neck, back and shoulder areas.

What is Pilates?

Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates and was first practiced in New York in 1923. Pilates was first embraced by New York's dancers, and it has since spread to a wide range of practitioners.

With Pilates, there is no shock or stress to your muscles. It is one of the best ways to build muscle throughout the body in a gentle manner, without doing fast movements or jumping. The focus here is on precision rather than speed of movement.

Whether you are a beginner or advanced in your practice, Pilates sessions are ideal for a gradual return to physical exercise as well as for long-term fitness improvement.

Benefits of Pilates

Pilates workouts offer many health benefits to your body, muscles and posture. In addition to increasing your flexibility and strengthening your muscles in depth, Pilates gives you the opportunity to work on your posture by correcting problematic positions. This usually reduces tension in the back, neck and shoulder areas.

Because the instructions are always clear and variations are offered, Pilates classes are also ideal if you are recovering from an injury or returning to the gym after childbirth.

The Pilates group classes offered at Gymnase are an excellent choice if you are looking for :

  • Muscle strengthening work to help you achieve better posture in your daily life.

  • A sense of flexibility and muscular balance.

  • Stronger abs and back.

  • A relaxing method that suits all levels of fitness: everyone moves at their own pace and chooses the level of difficulty that suits them.
